Will the Corporate World Help?
I do not have a lot of faith in the Multinationals and other corporations. They have their tentacles into every aspect of
life - but I get ahead of myself.
I could do as many advocate --just leave the manufacturers, food producers and chemical conglomerates to police their own
actions. But there are innumerable problems with this approach, such as:
- Corporations act for shareholders, not society.
- Executive compensation is tied to profit levels.
- Often, companies paint themselves green and spread misinformation.
- They smile and promise to monitor their own activities -- then don't.
- They oppose regulation by claiming it will destroy the economy and make us uncompetitive.
- Their lobby groups are rich and strong.
- When confronted, they deny responsibility and argue that their scientists contradict the evidence against them.
- Their lawyers argue that laws are too wasteful and time-consuming.
- They have a lot of well-paid lawyers to sue their critics into bancruptcy.
Optimistically Yours,
