Why Do Environmental Organisations Falter?
To offer personal support for Terra, I started donating to several organisations dedicated to the struggle. Because of
what I had learned over the years, I was not optimistic. I still support them, however, as there is unquestionably some
progress through their efforts. Here is a summary for your consideration:
- activists are often misunderstood by the public;
- there are too few in the groups to have an impact;
- they get some sympathy, but little support;
- the public is predisposed to ridicule them;
- an individual's cause gets lost to the public and the politicians in the volume of other causes;
- they are often dismissed as religious groups or fanatics, as glory seekers, violent, or tree huggers;
- they are subject to contradictory information;
- some interests hide under a coat of green paint;
- the public is overwhelmed by too many groups;
- individuals with environmental concerns are often equated with communists.
Optimistically Yours,
