Why Do Environmental Organisations Falter?

To offer personal support for Terra, I started donating to several organisations dedicated to the struggle. Because of what I had learned over the years, I was not optimistic. I still support them, however, as there is unquestionably some progress through their efforts. Here is a summary for your consideration:

  • activists are often misunderstood by the public;
  • there are too few in the groups to have an impact;
  • they get some sympathy, but little support;
  • the public is predisposed to ridicule them;
  • an individual's cause gets lost to the public and the politicians in the volume of other causes;
  • they are often dismissed as religious groups or fanatics, as glory seekers, violent, or tree huggers;
  • they are subject to contradictory information;
  • some interests hide under a coat of green paint;
  • the public is overwhelmed by too many groups;
  • individuals with environmental concerns are often equated with communists.
