A Short Autobiography

Matt Foster My name is Matt Foster. I am a Tree Hugger, as you may have guessed. Much to my dismay our local newspaper agreed to publish an environmental column based on my views of the environmental crisis.

I advocate two things:
1. We must inform the public as to the full extent of the dilemma facing this planet. (this is the reason for this site and my environmental column)
2. We must promote electoral reform in all of the countries still hanging onto antiquated 'first past the post' or 'winner take all' elections. (This also is the reason for this site and my environmental column)

What does this mean?

Only GREEN minded individuals can elect other GREEN minded individuals to represent their combined concerns to all levels of government. If we can accept that this is not RIGHT or LEFT politics, but RIGHT from WRONG politics, we have hope, and only then.

I am also a vegetarian, and have been for about 12 years, I am a damned good cook and have my own recipe book. Now that my memory is starting to fail with age, I need to check my ingredient list from time to time. My wife prefers that I cook, so there is no hassle. Someday I hope to get my collection of recipes onto my site.

I retired as a Director of Engineering and Product Development. My last job was in the design of poultry incubation equipment. Several patents were issued for our team's efforts. Research projects included: the effect of embryo and hen vocalizations during the later 5 days of incubation; the effect of the angle of egg orientation, the degrees turned and frequency of turning; the effect of lower temperatures and higher humidities during the hatch cycle. Someday I hope to also have some of my research put onto the site. In this position, I had the opportunity to see much of the world's poverty. China, the Philippines, Brazil, and India were among the places I have visited. The reason for my web site is in part because of my seeing the plight, and pollution of the people on this planet.

My education was cut short when I joined the Canadian Air Force at 17. This lasted 9 years. I served in Transport and Fighter Commands; in NATO in Germany and with the UN forces in 1957/58. My old UN helmet is still with me: I forgot to return it.

When I married, I decided to try 'civi-street.' This started out on the assembly line in appliance manufacturing, but fortunately I progressed fairly rapidly due to Company expansion. Foreman, General Foreman, Plant Manager, Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Control Management, Special Projects Manager, Engineering Manager: all were challenges met and mastered, to some degree (depending on whom you ask, of course).

Now I sail for entertainment, work on my cottage, and anguish over the problems we have inflicted onto this good earth.

Everything in my life seems to play a part in drawing me to the investigation of the pollution dilemma and human plight. My travel to impoverished parts of the world; my aptitudes for research, my work in the poultry strengthened my love for all life; the ethics given to me by my parents; my three children, my two grandchildren, etc. all seem to play a part.

Thanks for visiting.

Optimistically Yours,
