I have long believed that if you don't support a political party then you have no right to complain about politics.
One of my more recent approaches to the environmental crisis was to look to the Greens. Within the Greens, I found many
dedicated, concerned people just like me. I also found some who see the world slightly differently than I do. All have
passionate concerns for humanity and most see the salvation of the environment as coming through campaigns that hinge on
social change. There is a good deal of diversity in their personal struggles to say the least.
I hang in there. They will come together and be effective spokespeople for us, if we can get Proportional Representation
electoral reform past the corporate interests that overwhelm society.
At about age 60, after flirting with other options in the mainstream Parties, I became a member of the Ontario Greens.
I've acted as a Campaign Manager, Chief Financial Officer, and Constituency Contact for my area, even though I have no
talent for the work. I've stuffed mailboxes and handed literature out at the local farmer's market until being asked to get
off the property. (Interestingly no one has ever been asked to leave before the Greens showed up. Conventional Parties
have always been accepted there.)
I will stay with the Green Party. It has an active campaign to press for Proportional Representative government.
Give the Greens a try. Read their platform. You can help it become more diverse and
creative.
Optimistically Yours,
