A brief overview
My causes are varied but all stem from the same root. This root has been spreading insidiously, like kudzu through a
southern forest, since it was first identified by Thomas Jefferson in 1812. He said "I hope we shall crush, in its birth, the
aristocracy of our moneyed corporations which dare, already, to challenge our government to a trial of strength, and bid
defiance to the laws of the country."
Well it seems this didn't get done at the time. The electoral system is part of the reason for Mr. Jefferson's failure,
as it excludes representation of a major part of the population. To quote John Adams, "Parliament should be an exact
portrait, in miniature, of the people at large, as it should think, feel, reason and act like them."
This can only happen through Proportional Representative government. In a nut shell:
- We have a world in peril from a conscienceless corporate presence.
- We have governments totally in the control of corporate influence and money.
- We have a population manipulated by corporate newspeak.
- We, for the most part, are not represented in our own governments.
- We have a problem with our electoral system that can only be corrected through reform.
Below is a list of my causes in support of mother earth, linked to a few good sources:
- Gathering Information: some links to the places where I get information;
- Exposing Problems and Distributing Information: my Letters to the Editor and my Columns;
- Proportional Representational government: My passionate cause, with links that express it better
than I do;
- Supporting a Political Party that represents your views at least partially, with links to
Green Parties around the world;
- Supporting an Environmental Organization that represents your views, at least partially,
with links to those I personally like;
- Living as a Vegetarian with links to information and recipes.
Optimistically Yours,
Matthew R. Foster - Civis Mundi
