Support something. I was a working man with little time left for saving the environment so I did what many do. To clear
my conscience, I sent a few cheques to those who were working to save earth, which is my children's and grandchildren's
inheritance. Everyone should do this as the very least of their efforts.
Here are a few of my favourite organisations. I wish that I could support more, as they work tirelessly for our
interests.
- The Council of Canadians: The National Chairperson, Maude Barlow, is one of
my favourite Canadians. Founded in 1985, The Council of Canadians is Canada's pre-eminent citizens' watchdog organization,
with over 100,000 members in more than 60 chapters across the country. Strictly non-partisan, the Council lobbies Members of
Parliament, conducts research, and runs national campaigns aimed at putting some of the country's most important issues in
the spotlight: safeguarding social programs, promoting economic justice, renewing our democracy, asserting Canadian
sovereignty, advancing alternatives to corporate-style free trade, and preserving our environment. With this group, I
peacefully protested the Free Trade of the Americas in Quebec City.
- David Suzuki Foundation: Mr. Suzuki is a Canadian of great renown.
His foundation seeks out and commissions the best, most up-to-date research to help reveal ways we can live in balance with
nature, and offers ways for individuals to communicate their concerns about clean air and global warming to Canada's
political leaders.
- Sierra Club: Elizabeth May is the current Executive Director of the
Sierra Club of Canada. She is a true Canadian crusader. The Sierra Club's grassroots advocacy has made it America's most
influential environmental organization. Founded in 1892, it now has more than 700,000 members.
- Sierra Legal Defense Fund: From their web site: "Sierra Legal is the
only non-profit organization in Canada dedicated to providing free litigation and scientific services to the environmental
community. By doing so we force corporations and governments to respect the law and protect our natural heritage across the
country.+
Optimistically Yours,
